Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali said the state has agreed to resume negotiations on the water agreement with the federal government because the latter has agreed to go back to the original terms of the agreement.

“I have already received a letter from the energy, green technology and water minister saying that federal government has agreed to go back to the spirit of the master agreement.

“The federal government has agreed to finalise the water agreement in line with the original terms which had been signed.

“Therefore, we have agreed to continue negotiations,” Azmin ( centre in photo ) told reporters after launching Selangor’s World Water Day celebration.

Two weeks ago, Azmin had announced that the water agreement between the Selangor and the federal governments had lapsed and will not be extended because federal government had “breached the terms of the agreement”.

Azmin said a meeting between officials of the Selangor and federal governments had taken place this morning.

“The state was presented by state secretary Mohammed Khusrin Munawi ( left ) and I was told that the other side was represented by the chief secretary of the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry.

“It was a good start and I think I will follow up with another meeting with the minister and hopefully we will be able to conclude all the condition precedents (CP) under the master agreement as soon as possible,” said Azmin.

On the issue where federal government demanded land for free from Selangor, Azmin said this would not be an issue if the federal government follows the original terms. 

Asked on the suggestion from DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang to form a "Save Malaysia" coalition federal government comprise MPs from both side, Azmin refused to comment. 

“I think we wait until the DAP central committee meeting tonight. Don’t speculate, we should allow them to discuss the issue before we can make any response," he explained.

I believe in the wisdom of my DAP colleagues and leaders, they will look into this positively,” Azmin maintained.
