The federal government was aware and agreed to the amendments in the hudud enactment before being presented in the Kelantan state assembly, said Kelantan permanent secretariat head on hudud Takiyuddin Hassan today.

The Kota Bharu MP said the state had also incorporated suggestions made by the federal government in the hudud technical committee jointly formed between the state and federal governments last year.

"I can confirm that these amendments and improvements were agreed upon and took recommendations from the hudud technical committee with the federal government," he said.

Kelantan last week made amendments to the Syariah Criminal Code II Enactment 1993, which was passed unanimously in the Kelantan state assembly, which also has 12 Umno representatives.

This was a major step to implementing hudud in the state, barring a constitutional hurdle at the federal level.

"We accepted all the recommendations though not completely, we incorporated most of them into the bill," he said.

"Before this the federal government did not interfere in this matter but after the committee was formed they gave their input," he added.
