Although there are signs of a swing among Chinese voters to BN, MCA did not achieve its target, said MCA vice-president Chew Mei Fun.

She said the GST and 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) controversies were among the factors which prevented BN from doing better among Chinese voters.

"If not for these two issues, I'm confident Chinese vote swing will be higher," Chew ( photo ) told reporters today.

She expressed concern that if the 1MDB was not resolved soon, it would affect BN and MCA's performance in the next general election.

Chew said the two MCA members in the cabinet had expressed the party's views on the issue and hoped that the appropriate authorities and 1MDB would explain themselves.

Meanwhile, MCA announced the establishment of "training camps" for new recruits to learn the party's ideology and struggle.

The training sessions would focus on members who joined since 2012 and members who are below 45 years of age.

Twelve sessions would be held from May 12 until December.

Chew said the training sessions would help MCA members think for themselves and not take information obtained from the Internet at face value.
