Punish those behind ‘black ops’ to entrap media

YOURSAY ‘So it’s a fake SD. Someone  to go to jail for it.’

It's dark times for the media, too

Anonymous$&@?: I totally agree with Malaysiakini that those behind this elaborate attempt to deliberately mislead the media should be severely punished.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) must probe the people behind the so-called Citizens for Accountable Governance Malaysia (CAGM) for spreading false information in its bid to ‘entrap’ the media.

Right-minded rakyat can see through the strategy of this CAGM group. Its aim was to bait the media to print/carry false news. Later CAGM claimed that it was an ‘experiment’ after the hoax had been circulated.

This will then give MCMC the excuse to impose curbs on freedom of the press/internet, especially during this exciting period of national politics.

Is this another ploy hatched by you-know-who, in cahoots with CAGM, to entrap the media? Something smells fishy here.

Kee Thuan Chye: This was vile, devious, despicable. But we can guess who might have been behind this diabolical scheme.

Good thing The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) was persistent in demanding to see the documents, the hard evidence, or it too would have been entrapped and its expose on the monies deposited into PM Najib Razak's accounts would have been discredited.

Malaysiakini is right in calling on Najib and AmBank to file police reports against the perpetrators. Even AmBank group chairperson Azman Hashim should do so . If Najib takes no action, could we conclude that the perpetrators might have some association with him?

The English on the CAGM website is impeccable. Were foreign hands behind it? On the whole, it looks like the forces to counter the allegations made against Najib by media watchdogs are working overtime.

When you think of it, a lot of energy is being wasted on such activities. It should be used instead on governing well.

Anonymous #70885998: So it’s a fake SD (statutory declaration). Someone has to go to jail for it.

Basically: I wonder if any of us regular folk pulled a prank like that, we would be hauled off to jail. But these people seem to think they are heroes.

I think CAGM shouldn’t be too smug. They may think they were pretty clever, but actually it only makes the ruling elite look worse. Why resort to such gutter tactics if there was nothing to hide?

They can discredit online news organisations, but they cannot hide the fact the ringgit is rock bottom and our debt is over the top, and that banks are chasing the pants off 1MDB to repay its gargantuan loans.

Try to discredit that, CAGM. In Soviet days, Pravda reported optimistic news about USSR's productivity being 500 percent. Yeah, nice. But it didn’t save Russians from starving to death by the millions.

Turvy: It is not the first time in history that someone who would elude public scrutiny, targets the press to discredit the latter’s role. It becomes vile when you have businesses and men who do it for profit.

The guiding philosophy of this dark group is to make information palatable to the public to support their client’s needs. They will lie and distort to shield their clients. Truth is never their concern.

The press can only meet this challenge, which has become more widespread and insidious, by conforming to the strictest rules of their profession. Only with such standards can they be vigilant and withstand this open sabotage of one of the most important democratic institutions.

Press and pressmen are corruptible like anyone else; what saves them from losing the foothold of their purpose is a sense of their vocation. But even that will not save many because of the draw of lucre, from the emerging profession of saboteurs of the truth - disguised as PR men.

Headhunter: Yes, the aim is to discredit all the reports made by Sarawak Report and WSJ. So they created a diversion by creating a false report and said see, we told you they were all fabricated lies. See how fast they came out to say it was all a hoax.

Sleepy: To me, this latest SD fabrication, the Low Yat incident and the " confession video " are signs of desperation.

Hplooi: Despite all these black-ops at discrediting the free-media, the fundamental questions have still not been answered.

1) Was over US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) deposited in Najib’s bank accounts?

2) If so where/what is the source of this funding?

3) Is there proper accounting of how and where these funds were distributed?

Dalvik: Indeed, if the premier is genuinely a victim, he can refute the WSJ's report by proving that no money went into his accounts. Straightforward, no?

Swipenter: It looks like a ploy to clamp down hard on the media by creating "fabrication and tampering" of news and information for public consumption.

These are all traps created to justify a clampdown on the media, especially social media, so that we go back to the good old days where the government controls what you read, see and hear.

ABS: Whatever it is, we are all slaves to media. The media decides what news gets played up.

Once in a while, pause and think for ourselves. Exercise the grey cells to see if things make sense or not, regardless of the source.
