Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo has urged Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail to lift the veil of secrecy on the special task force that is investigating the 1MDB scandal in order to ensure its credibility.
"It has been some time now since the inception of the task force, but there are yet no specific details as to what its scope of investigations are and what it has done so far.
"With respect, the lack of specific and detailed responses from the special task force to these matters will work heavily against it in terms of public confidence and credibility," Gobind said in a statement today.
He said silence was not an option and Gani ( photo ) must explain the exact scope of the special task force, if it is to inspire confidence.
"Generally, no one knows for sure where the special task force is headed with this probe.
"Tell us what the special task force's role really is, what it is supposed to do, what it has done and ultimately where this will lead to.
"Gani must also make clear if there is a timeframe within which it must complete its probe," Gobind said.
This was important due to the controversies surrounding the 1MDB issue that the special task force is investigating, including allegations that RM2.6 billion was deposited into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's private bank accounts.
Failure to detail the work of the special task force will only create doubts about its investigation.
"A failure to do this will strengthen current views that this whole exercise is nothing more than a charade put into place to deflect concerns over complaints made in respect of matters surrounding 1MDB, and that ultimately, nothing will really come of it despite the gravity of the allegations involved," Gobind noted.
