Former PAS vice-president Husam Musa has called on MPs on both sides of the political divide to close ranks against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak if he were to drop his deputy in a cabinet reshuffle.
Husam said this is to address Najib's integrity issues, particularly in the case of 1MDB that Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has been critical about, and may be booted out for it.
"If Muhyiddin is sacked from the cabinet, all MPs who have a conscience in wanting to stop those who are greedy for power at the expense of national interest must work together in common action, according to democratic practices," he said.
Husam also indicated that MPs should work together with those aligned with Muhyiddin ( photo ), who is Pagoh MP.
"Muhyiddin may not be the best of leaders but allowing 1MDB to ruin the country will be even more damaging.
"I reiterate that MPs who are patriotic should have a joint initiative," he said.
Husam did not state the nature of this joint initiative but among the possible actions MPs can take against Najib, if they have enough numbers, is to move a motion of no confidence against the prime minister.
Last night, Najib reportedly met with the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong to inform him of a cabinet reshuffle, in which Muhyiddin and his allies were speculated to be dropped.
This is amid criticism by Muhyiddin and other ministers over Najib's handling of 1MDB.
A special task force is also investigating allegations of misappropriation in 1MDB and claims that RM2.6 billion was deposited into Najib's private bank accounts.
Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail, who had been coordinating the task force, was today abruptly removed from office .
