An officer attached to the Attorney-General’s Chambers, Jessica Gurmeet Kaur, who was investigated by the police for allegedly leaking a charge sheet implicating Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, is said to have been suddenly terminated from service.

It is also understood that Jessica, a Singapore citizen with permanent resident status in Malaysia, had her status revoked and could be deported soon.

Sources said she had been terminated from service as the head of administration and finance for the special task force secretariat, as well as from the AG’s Chambers.

A source in the AG’s Chambers confirmed that Jessica's contract with the chambers was terminated.

Another source, who also wants to remain anonymous, questioned the deportation order.

The source, who knows Jessica, asked whether her removal would work in Malaysia's best interest or would make the government, and Najib in particular, look bad.

“Why would the authorities want to deport her and have her out of the country, presumably back to Singapore, where she may complain to the authorities there and make the issue big?

“Wouldn't it better to let her remain here?” said the source.

Jessica, along with former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission adviser Rashpal Singh, were picked up by the police late on Friday, July 31, following an alleged leak of a charge sheet which was reported in the website Sarawak Report .

Another person who was picked up by the police was MACC prosecutor Ahmad Sazilee Abdul Khairi, whgo was detained hours later, about 2am on Aug 1.

Besides Jessica and Rashpal, seven MACC officers, including Ahmad Sazilee, are being investigated for the charge sheet leak.

The special task force to investigate 1MDB was originally chaired by then attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, who was suddenly removed on July 27.

The inter-departmental investigating team has since been disbanded by new AG Mohamed Apandi Ali.
