Umno-owned daily Utusan Malaysia today listed out various reasons why the mammoth Bersih rally over the weekend should be condemned including that it promoted gay rights and endangered children who were used as tools for the protest.

The frontpage report was accompanied by a photo showing Amanah party president Mohamad Sabu, Penang chief minister and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, DAP parliamentary leader, Lim Kit Siang, Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah and former Bersih 2.0 chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan there.

The report also claimed that the rally did not see much Malay participation and that it failed to curb the patriotic spirit of Malaysians who turned out if full force to celebrate National Day at the same venue on Monday.

The broadsheet also rapped the inability of the organisers to prevent the protesters from stepping on a photo of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

The Utusan report then went on to claim that the event had affected the income of the traders in the area while sabotaging the economy and harmony of the country in its attempt to topple the government.

The Umno-owned daily also highlighted some of the questionable placards carried by the Bersih 4 demonstrators.

Utusan then asked Bersih and opposition leaders to feel remorse for choosing a date close to National Day for the rally and affecting the latter's preparations and rehearsals.

“Aren't the Bersih 4 organisers and political leaders ashamed that while they shout about their democratic and individuals rights, they are violating the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 as the gathering had been declared illegal,” the paper asked.

It further questioned Maria Chin on whether the Bersih movement was celebrating Gay, Lesbian, Bi-sexual and Transgender (LGBT) rights as it claimed the rainbow flag was seen during the rally.

The daily also quizzed Mat Sabu's dignity in leading an Islamic party but allowed the unruly protesters to step on the photos of leaders who are of the same race and religion.

It also questioned Ambiga on the legality of bringing children for the Bersih 4 rally.

Utusan ended its article by saying there is nothing much to be proud about the 34 hour rally as it only showcased what it claimed were unruly, narrow-minded and rude protesters who did not abide by the law and the Merdeka spirit.

Meanwhile, Korea Times has carried a cartoon depicting former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad pulling the rug out from beneath Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's feet aided by the Bersih 4 rally.

The caption has Mahathir saying that he did not know there was a lot of fun in challenging the authority.

The 90-year-old ex-premier was at the Bersih rally twice.
