Khairy confident heads won't roll at Umno meet
Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin is confident nobody will be sacked during the party's supreme council meeting tomorrow.
"I'm 100 percent certain there will be no sacking of senior Umno leaders tomorrow," he told a press conference in Putrajaya today.
He said this when asked about speculation that Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, vice-president Mohd Shafie Apdal and several other supreme council members, including Mukhriz Mahathir and Ahmad Said, will be axed tomorrow.
Muhyiddin and Shafie were sacked as deputy prime minister and cabinet minister respectively in a cabinet reshuffle on July 28.
Downplaying the intense speculation, Khairy said tomorrow's meet would just be a regular supreme council meeting.
"We will discuss when to hold the annual general assembly, current political issues and party administration matters," he added.
The supreme council has not met for three months after its meeting last month was postponed following tensions within the party following the reshuffle.
Khairy, who is also youth and sports minister, painted a slightly rosy picture of how things are now, based on the outcome of yesterday's Umno political bureau meeting.
"It was a very positive mood. We all spoke to one another, we are all professionals," he said when asked if Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak was on speaking terms with Muhyiddin.
However, it was reported that Muhyiddin and Shafie did not contribute much to the meeting yesterday.
Najib had said he dropped Muhyiddin in order to strengthen the cabinet.
The sacking followed criticism of the prime minister's brainchild, 1MDB, by Muhyiddin.
