PAS will not contest in constituencies where PKR is standing despite the dissolution of Pakatan Rakyat, said PAS election director Mustafa Ali.

He said this is because PAS only ceased political cooperation with DAP, and not PKR.

"We can place a candidate in DAP areas (but) we have to study the situation first.

"We can contest anywhere, except in areas (contested by those) we have a tahaluf (cooperation) with, that is PKR.

"The other areas are open for contest (but) we need to study it first. It does not mean we will contest in all (DAP-contested) areas," he said when contacted.

"We will contest in mixed areas, not all-Chinese areas. This is why we need to study the matter first," he added.

PAS, DAP and PKR had a political cooperation under Pakatan Rakyat in the 2013 general election, barring them from contesting against each other in the polls.

However, despite the agreement, PAS and PKR went against each other in two seats - Sungai Acheh and Kota Damansara.

Mingguan Utusan had reported that PAS intends to contest in areas held or contested by DAP in the next general election.

Its president Abdul Hadi Awang ( photo ) said the Islamist party will also field non-Muslim candidates from the PAS supporters' wing.
