Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said he will keep mum on the planned red shirt anti-Bersih protest, for now.

"Let me put forward my views to the Umno supreme council tomorrow first before commenting on it," he told reporters at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

The protest has been proposed among others by Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Razlan Rafii, to counter the allegedly racist and Chinese-dominated Bersih 4 rally on Aug 29 and 30.

Several Umno leaders have already voiced support for the rally, including Rural and Regional Development minister Ismail Sabri, who said he would mobilise his Bera division for the protest.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim has said that police will not allow the rally due to security concerns.

Tear-gassed

Khairy himself had led an anti-Bersih rally back during their second public demonstration in 2011.

During that rally, he led hundreds of youths wearing red t-shirts bearing the word 'Patriot'.

They, too, were subject to tear gas when riot police moved in on the yellow-clad Bersih protesters.
