All schools in Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Penang, Kedah and Perlis, Bentong in Pahang and Kuching, Samarahan, Sri Aman and Betong in Sarawak will be closed tomorrow due to the haze, according to the Education Ministry.

It said in a statement that 4,778 schools were affected and 2,696,110 students were involved.

The ministry said the state education departments and district education offices have been instructed to immediately inform the schools and parents of the closure.

“The state education departments, district education offices and school administrations nationwide must continuously monitor the air pollutant index and implement measures determined by the ministry when the API reading is at the unhealthy and very unhealthy levels,” it said.

The Department of Environment portal reported that 31 areas in the country had API readings at the unhealthy level as at 4pm, while Shah Alam had an API reading at the very unhealthy level of 202.
