PARLIAMENT | Opposition Leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail appears confident that a vote of no confidence against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak will succeed.

This is despite the opposition losing a bloc vote against BN on a motion to suspend Gelang Patah MP Lim Kit Siang today.

"That is different; that is on Gelang Patah. But this is a vote of no confidence towards Pekan (MP Najib), not the government.

"This is to save the country, so I call on every MP, from BN and the opposition, to have a conscience, and unite for this motion," Wan Azizah ( photo ) said in a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

She had earlier submitted the no-confidence motion, which was accepted by speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng was also optimistic about the vote of no confidence.

"Today, we had 78 out of 87 MPs. BN only had 107, it didn't even have a simple majority ... less than 112 ...," he said.

'Unnecessary move'

When asked about Pandikar's request for a list of who would be voting against Najib, he said the move was unnecessary.

Opposition leaders declined to reveal how many BN lawmakers were on their side.

Besides the motion of no confidence, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said the opposition was considering all options on how to remove Najib.

This includes voting down Budget 2016, a move which Pandikar said would be akin to a vote of no confidence.

Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, when met by reporters earlier, suggested that BN lawmakers had a right to vote down Budget 2016 if they believe Najib had to go.

Najib will be tabling Budget 2016 tomorrow.
