Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali today said the controversial approval of three toll highways in the state was made by his predecessor Khalid Ibrahim.

Azmin said this when asked to respond to the flak he was receiving from activists who accused him of approving three highways, namely the Damansara-Shah Alam Expressway (Dash), Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Expressway (Suke), and the East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE).

"For your information, the three highways were not approved when I was menteri besar. It was approved in principle prior to that.

"Social media have been reporting that the three highways were supposedly approved within my one-year tenure as menteri besar when it was actually approved by the previous menteri besar," he told journalists at the Selangor state assembly lobby in Shah Alam this evening.

However, Azmin said as the nod at that time was only 'in principle', that meant there was no final approval yet.

Azmin said he will explain the matter in detail to the state assembly next week, which will sit until Nov 13.

Khalid ( photo ) had previously also approved - in principle - the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) but Azmin in February rejected the project.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin had criticised the approvals, pointing out that it went against the PKR-DAP-PAS government's stance which opposed tolls.
