Order SRC duo to return to face MACC, Najib told

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak should order the two SRC International Sdn Bhd officers to return to face the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as he promised Parliament on Oct 22, PAS says.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said although Najib had told the House that SRC’s managing director Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil and director Suboh Md Yassin would face MACC, no date has been set yet.

”What is more curious is SRC’s actions after that to urge the attorney-general (AG) to probe those responsible for allegedly leaking, and possibly selling secret information, before it cooperated with MACC on the allegations of abuse of funds.

“This appears to be going against Najib’s ‘directive’,” Tuan Ibrahim said in a statement today.

While attorney-general Apandli Ali has been reported as claiming that the MACC had taken statements from the duo, they remain at large overseas.

“The problem is, Najib has not stated his objections (to SRC’s demand to investigate the information leakage).

“Does this mean Najib agrees with SRC’s demand? If so, would this also be Najib’s condition before giving a full explanation to the MACC?” Tuan Ibrahim asked of the PM's impending visit to the MACC for questioning.

“If Najib is sincere about revealing the ‘truth’ (about 1MDB), PAS urges the PM to use all his full powers to order Faisal Ariff and Suboh to return to Malaysia to be questioned by the MACC,” he said.

“Otherwise, all this would in all likelihood be a political wayang (show), just like Najib’s threats to sue The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) that till today has not taken place.”

The prime minister had threatened to sue WSJ over articles reporting that money from 1MDB had been deposited into his private bank accounts.

Although it had later been admitted that the deposits did take place, its source has since been explained as an Arab donation to Umno, and not 1MDB funds.

Till today Najib’s lawyers have given various reasons as to why the lawsuit has not taken place, for example citing unfavourable laws in the US or that the PM is not well-known there.
