No more press conferences, declares upset PAC chief

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will no longer hold press conferences starting from its next meeting on Nov 23, its chairperson Hasan Arifin said today.

This is because Hasan is upset with the media.

"As the PAC chief, I am disappointed that my efforts to be friendly with the media are not appreciated by some media practitioners.

"Even though I asked that my joke at the press conference yesterday, before going out to lunch, should not be reported, there were still some media that published it.

"As such, starting from the PAC meeting on Nov 23, the PAC will not hold anymore press conferences," Hasan said in a statement.

Yesterday, Hasan quipped, " Jangan la, saya pun nak cari makan " (Please don't, I need to make a living, too) when repeatedly grilled on why the PAC would not call Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to assist in its investigation of 1MDB.

He later clarified that he meant he was "looking for food" as lunch had been served for the media.

However, Hasan did not say yesterday that his joke was off the record.

'Cari makan', quips PAC's Hasan on not calling PM from kinitv

Below is the excerpt from the PAC chief’s press conference:

Reporter: From what I understand, (former PAC chief) Nur Jazlan (Mohamed) said they would call credit raters, then they said if necessary, they will call the prime minister...

Reporter: Just to add on lah, Datuk...

Hasan: (Laughs) Jangan la, saya pun nak cari makan jugak (laughs). I'm sorry you (laughs) you (inaudible).
