In Round One, Mohd Ali Baharom, who uses the nom de guerre Ali Tinju, escaped a legal bruising when Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali did not charge him due to insufficient evidence with regard to the infamous Low Yat incident.

It was a move that saw Mohamed Apandi Ali being rained with blows instead.

Five months later, the two are back in the ring and this time, PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has urged the AG to knock out the "clown".

"The many misadventures of Ali Tinju have gone beyond a simple antic of a person trying to curry favour with Umno politicians, they are becoming a bad reflection of our society as a whole

"The rise of Ali Tinju and his type in our society is a symptom that threats and heavy-handedness are becoming a tool to suppress difference of opinion.

"Ali Tinju and his cohorts can be deployed at any time against anyone," he told Malaysiakini .

Mohd Ali, who is also ex-president of the Malay army veterans association, was arrested under the Sedition Act on Monday over his remarks at the Kota Raya shopping complex last week.

He and his supporters had staged a protest outside the complex against Chinese mobile phone traders accused of shortchanging and abusing their Malay and Muslim customers.

Prior to assuming the role of a mobile phone vigilante, Mohd Ali made the news for leading a group of men in an infamous act of posterior gyrations outside the residence of former Bersih chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan.

He also played an instrumental role in the Sept 16 red-shirt protest this year to counter Bersih 4, which demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Meanwhile, Rafizi noted how Mohd Ali resorted to racial connotations and manipulation to justify his hooliganism

"A failure to put a stop to this is a reflection that either our society tolerates it, or we are incapable to put a leash on a trend that is clearly a danger to society," he warned.

Therefore, the Pandan lawmaker argued that the AG has a duty to society to put a stop to the brand of hooliganism that Mohd Ali represents.

"The AG also has a duty as a Malay and Muslim to rein in on individuals like Ali Tinju who are bent on misrepresenting Malays as gangsters out to intimidate

"As much as Ali Tinju is a clown that many of us like to ignore - the phenomenon is alarming and must be nipped in the bud," he said.
