A senior police officer was sentenced to 100 years in jail and 15 strokes of the rotan for raping and sodomising a 13-year-old girl in 2012.

Deputy Superintendent Rohaizat Abdul Ani, former Setiu OCPD and Sabah anti-vice chief, was convicted of four counts of rape and one count of sodomy at the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court.

The 56-year-old father of two was handed a 20-year sentence, which is the maximum, for each charge.

According to Berita Harian , the crime was committed in a hotel between February and May 2012.

In her ruling, Sessions Court judge Ainul Shahrin said the court took into consideration that the accused was supposed to protect the community instead of committing a crime.

The accused, however, was granted a stay pending his appeal. He was released on RM100,000 bail and a surety.

The senior officer, who now stays in Kuala Lumpur, would have to report to Bukit Aman police headquarters twice a month.

The prosecutor had called a total 19 witnesses while the defence counsel called five.

Rohaizat was the head of D7 or the anti-vice, gambling and secret societies division at the Sabah police headquarters from 2006 to 2010.

He was then transferred as Setiu district police chief.

When he was charged in August 2013, Rohaizat was serving as the Penang Federal Reserve Unit deputy chief.
