Smuggled liquor worth RM600,000 seized near Seremban

The Negri Sembilan Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Office today seized a total of 40,440 bottles and 2,800 cans of contraband liquor worth RM600,000 at a premises in Kuala Sawah, Rantau near Seremban.

Deputy chief enforcement officer Mohd Fuzi Hadi Abd Latip said the raid was made following a public tip-off and intelligence work, which discovered that a freshwater fish farming project was used as a front for the illegal operation at the premises.

"During the 2pm raid today, several foreign workers were in the midst of labelling the liquor bottles with stickers professing the product are locally produced.

"In reality, the liquor were brought in illegally allegedly, from Singapore and Vietnam," he told a press conference in Seremban.

He said, further inspection found that the premises had been in operation over the past few months.

"To avoid detection by the authorities, they also use serial numbers which are almost similar to production numbers used by local factories," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.
