A Johor Amanah delegate has cautioned DAP not to field Malay candidates in Johor state seats under that party logo.

Johor Amanah deputy chief Zulkefly Ahmad said Umno had convinced the rural Johor Malays that DAP are anti-Malay and anti-Islam.

As such he said, if DAP wants to field candidates in Johor state seats, it should use the PKR or Amanah logo.

“We are not worried about support from our Chinese friends in Johor. But I am worried about Malay voters in Johor.

“We suggest that to be more practical, DAP should not field Malay candidates in state seats, just in Parliament seats.

“If they need to field candidates, it should be under the PKR or Amanah logo,” Zulkefly said at the Pakatan Harapan leadership summit in Shah Alam today.

He was debating the Pakatan Harapan common agreement which was inked today.

Pakatan Harapan leaders were quick to distance themselves from Zulkefly’s proposal.

“We give him the freedom to speak [...] but as I said earlier, we will not be trapped by racist politics,” Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said at a press conference later.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng also concurred that while Zulkefly had the right to speak, his view does not reflect Pakatan Harapan’s stand.
