Petaling Jaya police have taken a suspect into custody after he was handed over by several Bangladeshi workers who apprehended him for allegedly posing as an Immigration officer and tried to con them out of their cash and belongings.

The police said they arrived at the scene at 8.30pm yesterday night at an apartment complex in Ara Damansara, after being alerted by a call from a security guard.

Further investigations found that the suspect came to the apartment complex earlier with his friend and they identified themselves as Immigration Department officers.

The duo subsequently took seven Bangladeshi males into custody, seizing their passports.

The suspects then used a laptop to supposedly check their victim's passports but gave the excuse that their laptop battery had run out prior to confiscating RM1,700 in cash and seven handphones from their victims.

The suspects then tried to run away, though smelling something fishy, the Bangladeshis took action and managed to apprehend one of the suspects and recover their money and belongings

The other suspect fled the scene in the ensuing melee.

According to the police, the suspect was taken to the Kelana Jaya Police Station for processing and has been arrested for posing as a public official.
