Police are expected to question former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad in Putrajaya today, sources close to the ex-premier and Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed.

Malaysiakini learned that the police investigation is related to Mahathir's remark against Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali made in his blog.

A source told Malaysiakini that police are expected to record Mahathir's statements at the office of the Perdana Leadership Foundation.

Asked for further details, the source would only say: "We will wait and see this afternoon."

On Feb 15, Khalid confirmed that several reports were lodged against Mahathir for his blog postings.

Khalid had earlier called on those not happy with Mahathir's blog posts to lodge reports for the police to investigate to see if laws have been broken.

He said this in response to Umno information chief Annuar Musa, who said Mahathir's posting in his blog on Feb 3 was seditious.

When asked about the matter during a press conference in Bukit Aman today, Khalid ( photo ) confirmed that Mahathir's statements are being recorded over his blog postings.

"We are recording his statements in relation to what he had written in his blog. We received a few reports and so the police must investigate.

"We will record his statement today at a pre-arranged place. Today but not in Bukit Aman," he said.

On Feb 5, Mahathir repeated his calls for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to quit, saying that Najib’s 1MDB-linked financial scandals had shamed the country.

He also slammed Apandi for allegedly protecting Najib.
