Police to probe Siputeh food poisoning-related death

Police have opened an investigation paper to find out the cause of death of a woman in the food poisoning incident in Siputeh, Batu Gajah.

Perak deputy police chief Hasnan Hassan said for now, police will classify it as sudden death.

He said police had also opened an inquiry paper to enable investigations to find out if there were any criminal elements in the case.

"We will get the Chemistry Department's report on what posionous material caused her death," he told reporters after the state police contingent's 209th Police Day celebration at the Perak police headquarters in Ipoh today.

Hawa Buyong, 46, who was admitted to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh for food poisoning on March 4, died at the hospital's intensive care unit at 11.25pm on Wednesday due to insufficient oxygen to the brain.

In the incident, 102 people were given medical treatment at various hospitals for food poisoning symptoms suspected to be caused by carbamate in insecticides.
