Kini Roundup: ABC on Najib's donation, lawyers summoned over anti-AG motion

Here’s a recap of major headlines yesterday you may have missed.

More expose on Najib's billions

In the wake of its Four Corners current affairs programme on 1MDB and the billions 'donated' into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's personal accounts, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) followed up with details of cars, holidays and jewellery that the PM had allegedly spent the money on.

The Australian broadcaster's report also mentioned a letter in which one of the Saudi princes who allegedly donated money to Najib, had told the premier to " do as you please " with his US$375 million gift.

But fame may not be the only reward for the Australian journalists involved in the Four Corners programme, as they may face action if they return to Malaysia, said Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed.

Pro-Najib portal MyKMU has described the Australian documentary as a pack of lies featuring “madmen and the senile”.

Meanwhile, Najib’s lawyer Mohd Hafarizam Harun declined to comment on the report as he has yet to watch yet .

Lawyers summoned over AG's removal motion

Three lawyers who submitted a motion at the March 19 Bar Council annual general meeting to seek the resignation of attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali for refusing to prosecute Najib over deposits in his bank accounts have been summoned by the police under the Sedition Act.

Also called for questioning by the police was Malaysian Bar's secretary Cheah Yee Lynn. A livid Malaysian Bar president Steven Thiru decried the police action as an unacceptable interference in the Bar's affairs.

Rafizi in hot water over OSA breach

The police are checking if the document disclosed by Pandan parliamentarian Rafizi Ramli is part of the Auditor-General's Report, which falls under the Official Secrets Act (OSA). Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar told Malaysiakini that if that is the case, then they will take action against the PKR vice-president.

Rafizi's defiance of the OSA has prompted Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan to stress that the Act must be amended to include heavier punishments so that no one would dare to disregard the law and leak state secrets.

DAP denies gag order on bungalow row

DAP has denied issuing a gag order to its members on Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's bungalow imbroglio. The party's national organising secretary Anthony Loke said instead, it was only an advisory to Penang assemblypersons to let appointed spokespersons deal with the issue.

Meanwhile, Penang Wanita Umno chief Norliza Abdul Rahim has taken a dig at Lim, asking him to share his knowledge to help the poor secure bungalows at a lower price.
