Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli is expected to be charged under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) tomorrow.
His lawyer Saiful Izham Ramli told Malaysiakini that he is to be charged under Section 8 of the OSA at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court tomorrow morning.
"We were just informed over the phone by the police (on the charge)," Saiful said.
Section 8 of the OSA deals with 'wrongful communication of official secrets'.
If found guilty, Rafizi could serve between one to seven years in prison.
This could cost the PKR representative his Pandan MP seat as under Malaysian law, lawmakers will be disqualified if they are jailed for more than one year or fined more than RM2,000.
Rafizi was arrested outside the parliament gates on Tuesday, and was remanded for three days.
Following his arrest, police had seized one computer, a laptop, and a phone from Rafizi's home and the PKR headquarters.
He was detained after revealing classified documents about the Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera and 1MDB.
Rafizi claimed this was part of the evidence that 1MDB's financial woes had caused LTAT to be unable to pay gratuity to army veterans.
LTAT and 1MDB have denied his claims.
