MACC panel wants Guan Eng-Rahman Dahlan debate called off

The Special Committee on Corruption (SCC) overseeing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) wants the planned debate between Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan to be called off.

“The SCC is worried that if the debate continues, it will jeopardise the MACC’s investigations,” SCC chairperson Abu Zahar Ujang said in a statement today.

Zahar, who is also the Senate president, said instead of an open debate, those with information on the Taman Manggis or Lim’s bungalow scandal should submit that information to the MACC.

He was commenting on plans by Lim and Rahman to debate the Taman Manggis scandal.

RTM and TV3 have both offered to air the debate.

Both Abdul Rahman and Lim have been locking horns through the media almost on a daily basis since news of the chief minister purchasing a bungalow below market price surfaced.

The debate then shifted to the Taman Manggis land.

The contention here is over the alleged sale of KLIDC, which has bought the state land in Taman Manggis.

The minister alleged that the company has changed hands, while the chief minister argued that this was not true.
