Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) grassroots leader Milton Foo has not been made to resign after slamming Adenan Satem's leadership of the state BN in an open letter yesterday.

"The matter has been resolved. He won't do it again. Am I right, (Dr) Sim (Hui Kian)?" said Adenan during a press call to announce BN's final group of candidates in Kuching today.

SUPP president Sim had attended the event at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu (PBB)'s headquarters, along with other component party leaders.

Yesterday, Foo had called Adenan's actions in using direct candidates " dictatorial " after SUPP lost the right to contest seven seats to its rival, the splinter United People's Party (UPP).

Foo had condemned the allotment as a "unilateral act" without consensus among the state component parties.

"I have to voice the truth. As a senior leader, you should listen to the truth, not apple-polished words.

"Despite the possibility of me losing the BN candidacy, still I have to voice that the Sarawak CM (chief minister) should not break his promises," Foo had said.

Today, Foo told reporters that he would still contest as the SUPP candidate for Pending, an urban Chinese-majority seat located in Kuching.

"There are criticisms and different views (that can be expressed) in the system. I put my full support and trust with him (Adenan).

"I'm happy and appreciate he put the same trust in me as well. I conveyed my message to him and he took the message. The matter is closed," said Foo.

Asked if he regretted using the word “dictatorial” in describing the state BN chief, Foo said: "I would not comment on my letter anymore; let's focus on the election. Whatever it is to be said has already been said."

Foo will challenge incumbent Violent Yong, who defeated Sim with a 7,595 majority in the 2011 election. Both Foo and Yong are lawyers by trade.

'BN a united team'

Meanwhile, the final three seats of Meradong, Marudi and Tasik Biru, will be contested by candidates from BN component parties. Henry H Jinep of Sarawak Progressive Democractic Party (SPDP) will contest Tasik Biru; Datu Pengguang Manggil of SPDP will run in Marudi, and Ding Kuong Hiing of SUPP is the candidate for Meradong.

No additional direct candidates were on the cards. With today's announcement, state BN completes its list of 82 candidates.

"We enter the election as a united team - Team BN, Team Adenan - whatever you may call it. We have resolved our differences. We now turn our guns against the opposition instead of (at) one another," Adenan had said.

Sarawak People's Energy Party (Teras), a splinter group of SPDP, had been vying for the two seats which eventually went the other way.

In reaction to the announcement, Teras president William Mawan Ikom told reporters the party may need to merge with SPDP after the election: "You need to have a big stomach to swallow all the pride."

However, he is confident of a BN victory.

"This time I can see everybody is united. All the component parties, all the BN-friendly parties, all their leaders - you can see how everybody put up a sincere, strong smile. I think we can do very well if we put that spirit of co-operation into practice.

"Teras is a new party and there are a lot of obstacles. This is just one of the hurdles that you need to surmount in the whole journey.

"In political life, there will be twists and turns. There are bends you need to navigate but if it's all ultimately pointing towards the same direction and you safely arrive, it should be all worthwhile."

Teras, through the 'direct candidate' method, will contest Bekenu and Batu Danau, as well as Pakan, which will be defended by Mawan.

In a press conference in Sibu today, SPDP Tiong King Sing however said that if 'BN-friendly' Teras were to re-join BN, Mawan would have to return as an ordinary member.

“He cannot come back as (BN) supreme council member," he was quoted as saying by The Borneo Post .

Sarawak goes to the polls on May 7.
