S'WAK POLLS Chinese in Sarawak have been told to vote for Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) if they want a Chinese deputy chief minister.

This was the message conveyed by the Sarawak caretaker Chief Minister Adenan Satem at a press conference last night.

Borneo Post reported him as saying he would consider appointing a Chinese deputy chief minister if he wins the election.

This, however, would be impossible if SUPP were to lose in the May 7 polls, said Adenan.

“Of course, that is if the people want to be in the government, the only way to do this is to vote for SUPP.

“If you do not want it, you vote DAP. If you want it, you vote SUPP.

“And then there will be a Chinese deputy chief minister in the cabinet,” he said.

The Chinese deputy chief minister post was left vacant since the defeat of former SUPP chief George Chan in the 2011 state election.

SUPP lost 13 seats out of 19 it contested in the last state polls.

The deputy chief minister was a seat traditionally reserved for SUPP leader.

It is believed SUPP chief Sim Kui Hian may be appointed as the new deputy chief minister if he wins the Batu Kawah state seat.
