Kit Siang tells PM to show Bank Negara documents for RM2.6b

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has cast doubts on Department of Special Affairs (Jasa) director-general Mohd Puad Zarkashi's revelation that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had gotten the green light from former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, to accept a RM2.6 billion donation in 2013.

The Gelang Patah MP asks why Najib had not come forward to say this himself, if things were so clear cut.

"If Najib had Bank Negara documents which approved the deposit of RM2.6 billion in his personal banking accounts, why is Najib unable to show them in the past 11 months since the Wall Street Journal report?

"If the RM2.6 billion donation had come from the Saudi King, why can’t he produce documentation to prove it?

"Can Najib produce these documents now?" Lim asked in a statement today.

Puad had told Malaysian students in Canberra on Friday that Umno leaders had met Najib to ask about the donation.

"When we arrived at his home, we asked Najib if he indeed received RM2.6 billion, he said, correct. He didn't deny it and he said he had Bank Negara documents of the approval to transfer the money into his personal bank accounts.

"The only problem, he said, was that perhaps an officer from Bank Negara or AmBank had leaked the matter to Sarawak Report and it was then passed to the Wall Street Journal," Puad had said.

He added that Najib told them the money came from the Saudi king and not from 1MDB.

Najib has consistently denied any wrongdoing in the RM2.6 billion donation case, and attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali had cleared the premier of any criminal misconduct.
