Pushing for Islamic party to contest in seats 'lent' to former allies
PAS Youth is pushing for the Islamic party to contest in DAP and PKR seats it claimed were 'lent' along with the party's grassroots and machinery to its former Pakatan Rakyat allies.
Its chief, Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz, hoped that the PAS leadership will study its seat allocations for parliament and state legislative assemblies in the upcoming 14th general election.
He said this while delivering his policy speech at the wing's muktamar in Kota Baru today.
PAS Youth is pushing for the Islamic party to contest in DAP and PKR seats it claimed were 'lent' along with the party's grassroots and machinery to its former Pakatan Rakyat allies.
Its chief, Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz, hoped that the PAS leadership would study its seat allocations for parliament and state legislative assemblies in the upcoming 14th general election.
He said this while delivering his policy speech at the wing's muktamar in Kota Baru today.
He said the distribution of seats should take into account the party machinery strength in contested seats as well as support pattern according to age and education background.
"Enough of the past which serves as a lesson, whereby our sincere and obedient party members were made use of by our friends for the sake for electoral victory.
"And then they were abandoned just like that," he said.
If the party leadership were to take the bold step to contest in seats it previously lent to PKR and DAP, PAS Youth vowed that it would take a thousand and one steps to ensure that the party wins, Allah willing," he said to shouts of takbir by the assembled delegates.
Core tenets
However, Nik Abduh did not mention the seats in his proposal that may lead to more three-cornered fights in the coming general election.
Nik Abduh also reminded party grassroots to hold true to the core tenets of the ulama leadership which have been formulated by the leaders who came before.
"This concept is not a seasonal thing, it is the core that affirms PAS' struggle all this while and determines the direction and future prospect of the party.
"The ulama leadership is the DNA that has made PAS into an Islamic movement that is unique and special, compared to other Islamic movements in the eyes of today's researchers," he said.
The Pasir Mas MP said that it was time for the concept to be propagated by PAS Youth to update its outreach agenda.
"Propagate the concept by energising the culture of knowledge among members at the branch level, to the mosque, and all the way to the lecture hall.
"PAS and national policies must be discussed and understood by all.
"This is in line with PAS Youth preparations to become the next-in-line for the party's struggle in the future," he said.
As such, he said that PAS Youth would continue to be at the front lines to defend the concept of ulama leadership.
"If all of us ulama, professionals, and activists understand this noble concept, we are confident that whatever challenges the leadership faces, we will go through wisely and in strength.
"We must understand the concept of the political approach taken by PAS: any victory we aspire to must be consistent with the principles of Islamic struggle," he said.
