Former Perak Menteri Besar Nizar Jamaluddin is standing by his statement that the Kuala Kangsar by-election is to teach Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid a lesson for their role in the 2009 Perak crisis.

This is how he sees the connection between the Perak crisis of 2009 that saw the fall of the Pakatan Rakyat state government and the by-election today, coincidentally both in Kuala Kangsar, he said.

"This is my personal intepretation of why Kuala Kangsar was chosen and not any other parliamentary constituency," Nizar told Malaysiakini when met at the royal town yesterday.

"The Kuala Kangsar people must remember history, where these two (Najib and Zahid) came and stole the government. So, I just said these two cases may have some connection. That's all.

“I may be wrong, but coincidentally it happened in the same town," he said, adding both incidents happened with the permission of God.

Therefore, Nizar refused to retract his statement or apologise for for it, adding that the matter of repenting does not arise, he added.

The former menteri besar sees the by-election as a matter to teach Najib and Zahid a lesson for their role in the crisis, which saw BN taking over the Perak government.

Zahid had hoped the Amanah leader would repent, and that his repentance would be accepted by Allah.
