DAP and Parti Amanah Negara leaders today dismissed talk of having Muhyiddin Yassin replace Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the parliamentary opposition leader.

Both Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub and DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke expressed satisfaction with the PKR president’s performance.

"Sure (we are satisfied with her) as the chief of the opposition in the country," said Salahuddin when quizzed on the matter.

"DAP has full confidence in Wan Azizah to continue to lead the opposition," said Loke.

The two leaders said this when met after the Pakatan Harapan presidential council meeting this morning.

Amanah central committee member Mazlan Aliman was previously reported as saying that the party would propose Muhyiddin as the new opposition leader.

The party later clarified that Mazlan's remarks were taken out of context.

Meanwhile, Salahuddin also said that Harapan is open to the prospect of Muhyiddin, Shafie Apdal and Mukhriz Mahathir joining any of the three parties in the opposition bloc.

"The door will always be open for them," he added.

Muhyiddin, who was dropped as deputy prime minister last year, was on June 24 sacked from Umno together with Mukhriz.

Shafie, who was also axed from his minister post, decided to quit Umno after being slapped with a suspension.

"The door of Harapan is always open to all these figures - Tan Sri Muhyiddin, Shafie and Mukhriz. So, wait and see, when come to the bridge and we will cross," Salahuddin.

Salahuddin said the parties will think of a position for Muhyiddin if he wants to join the opposition parties, but "not as the opposition chief".

"We don't discuss the invitation in the open," added Saifuddin Abdullah, who is Harapan secretary.

Meanwhile, Wan Azizah, who also attended the press conference, said Harapan will draft an alternative budget.

She also called for a bi-partisan committee to be set up to include the feedback from the opposition to resolve the threat of terrorism.

"The presidential council has viewed seriously about the threat of IS.

"Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had used terrorism to justify (his action to) curb the people's freedom by introducing Prevention of Terrorism Act, Sediction Act and Secrurity Offences (Special Measures) Act, (but the laws) indeed fail to contain the threat," she said.
