PAS vice-president Iskandar Samad has expressed support for party number two Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man's call for a ceasefire between PAS and Pakatan Harapan parties.

Tuan Ibrahim earlier said it would be better to first defeat their common enemy, BN, and not further alienate the people.

“If the situation today continues, BN will remain in power in Malaysia and wrest Selangor in the next general election.

“There must be a formula to ensure everyone’s principles can be respected,” Iskandar said in a statement.

Iskandar is also executive council member in the Selangor government, which is made up of PAS, PKR and DAP.

The coalition government remained despite the collapse of Pakatan Rakyat, after PAS and DAP locked horns over hudud last year.

He added that failure to form an electoral pact will only benefit BN, as evident in the Sungai Besar by-election.

Call to look forward

He said leaders must think of the people’s future instead of continuing politicking.

“Leaders must go to the ground to understand what the people want. What is important to politicians may not be the same to the common man,” he said.

Earlier, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali welcomed Tuan Ibrahim’s statement and said that at least an electoral pact should be formed between PAS and Pakatan Harapan parties to avoid damaging multi-corner fights.

DAP, too, welcomed the proposal by the PAS deputy president but Amanah questioned if Tuan Ibrahim was speaking for the Islamist party.

Amanah is a PAS splinter party. DAP, PKR and Amanah form Pakatan Harapan, the successor to Pakatan Rakyat.
