Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak urged the family members of the deceased, whose picture was allegedly appropriated by a pro-establishment cybertrooper, to lodge a report.

He said this in response to claims that a picture of a woman who passed away three years ago was used by a Facebook account that was defending Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on social media.

"To us if we receive a report, we will inform Facebook of the matter so that action can be taken and the offending account removed for sullying the good name of those who have passed on.

"Allah willing, action will be taken as soon as we receive their report on the matter," Salleh told Malaysiakini.

Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported the story of a netizen claiming that the picture of her deceased friend suddenly appeared on the Facebook account using the name 'Zunaidah Zain'.

The account that was using the alleged picture of the deceased is currently no longer available on Facebook.

According to screenshots of previous postings from the account, the user was seen telling all to support the country's leaders using the hashtag #RespectMyPM and #BelieveinPM.

Meanwhile, Umno cyberwarfare unit chief Ahmad Maslan when met by Malaysiakini refused to comment on the matter, saying it had nothing to do with him.

"Not my area, no connection (to me)," said Ahmad curtly.
