Big Blue Taxi Services is set to support new party Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) if Uber and Grab car services are legalised.

“This approval (is a) no-go for me. For the taxi industry, (it is a) no-go. We will fight all the way.

“We’ll make sure that if Uber is legalised by the end of this year, we will give our 100 percent support (to) the new party, Bersatu,” said Big Blue Taxi Services founder Shamsubahrin Ismail in a press conference according to a video by KiniTV today.

He added that they would lend their support to the party’s pro-tem president Muhyiddin Yassin and also expressed hope that Muhyiddin would “support and transform” the taxi industry.

Shamsubahrin was responding to reports that the cabinet has decided that the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) should regulate the e-hailing taxi concept by year-end, paving the way for Uber and Grab car services to be legalised.

The businessman hit out at SPAD for being “so lazy and stupid”.

“Because they are so stupid, they make the cabinet look so brainless,” said Shamsubahrin, claiming that he had never witnessed transformation efforts in relation to the taxi industry from the commission.

He also claimed that SPAD was only trying to make its job easier by approving Uber and Grab car services.

SPAD chairperson Syed Hamid Albar is expected to hold a press conference on the matter next Monday.

Amendments to the laws to allow ride-sharing are expected to be tabled during the Parliament sitting in November.

The cabinet made the decision after SPAD chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah reportedly presented 11 initiatives on taxi and ride-sharing services.
