Pakatan Harapan presidential council today condemned the remand of three student activists promoting the TangkapMO1 rally.
"The Pakatan Harapan presidential council strongly opposes intimidation by the authorities against the organisers and supporters of this rally," it said in a statement.
The council also threw its support behind the Aug 27 rally.
"We urge the whole of Malaysia that loves justice and truth to come down together to support this rally," it said.
Rally organisers earlier urged inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar to take action against police officers involved in the arrest of the three student activists.
"The IGP has to take disciplinary action towards the police officers that are responsible," said Ashraff Nazrin, a spokesperson for the rally.
Their request was included in a memorandum that Muhammad Luqman Nul Hakim Zul Razali handed to ASP Wan Kamal Rizal Wan Daud at the Bukit Aman police headquarters this morning.
The officer assured the group that the memorandum would be given to the IGP.
Ashraff, Muhammad Luqman and Luqman Fazli were arrested on Aug 20 for trying to enter Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Seri Iskandar to promote the rally.
They accused the investigating officer involved of denying them their right to a lawyer, by allegedly giving false information regarding the location of the Magistrate's Court.
The purportedly false information was said to have resulted in the trio being remanded for three days.
Ashraff also claimed that the students were being denied their constitutional right to assemble.
The three are being investigated under Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for holding an assembly without prior notice, and Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespassing.
If found guilty, they face a fine of up to RM10,000 under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, and up to six months' jail or a maximum fine of RM3,000, or both under the Penal Code.
'Malaysian Official 1' was mentioned in the US Department of Justice (DOJ) 136-page filing to seize US$1 billion in assets allegedly acquired using money stolen from 1MDB.
The DOJ believes more than US$3.5 billion was stolen from the Malaysian fund and at least US$731 million of this money entered the personal bank accounts of MO1.
The rally, slated for this Saturday in Kuala Lumpur, will call for action against MO1.
