PKR lawmaker Rafizi Ramli believes his efforts to help people who are victimised for suspected Islamic State links may be used against him.

He said this may be used to prove that he too has links with the militant group.

"The National Oversight and Whistleblowers (NOW) and I take up the cases of people who have been victimised under the guise of IS.

"These people are victims of the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma)," Rafizi told Malaysiakini when met in Kuala Lumpur last night.

Rafizi and NOW had in May taken up the case of policewoman Jusninawati Abdul Ghani, who was detained under Sosma for allegedly withholding information on terrorist activities.

Red shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos (photo) had on Tuesday claimed that Rafizi provided him with some information regarding possible links between Bersih and IS.

This prompted a call by Wanita MCA chief Heng Seai Kee for police to investigate Rafizi for any IS links.

"It may not be so random after all," Rafizi said of these allegations.

However, he did not believe that Jamal had "connected the dots" on this.

Asked whether he would sue the Sungai Besar Umno chief for the unexpected name drop, Rafizi said no.

"It's a waste of time and money," he said.

Rafizi had denied supplying Jamal with information on Bersih.

Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamad has asked the police not to investigate Jamal's claim.
