A man who was sleeping in the living room of his house was killed when a four-wheel-drive vehicle crashed into his house at Permatang Pasir in Butterworth last night.

The incident occurred at 10.45pm while Mat Rasid Mat Sharif, 67, was asleep on a sofa on the ground floor living room of the two-storey house.

Seberang Perai Tengah district police chief Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the impact of the crash resulted in the brick wall collapsing and crashing onto the man.

"The Suzuki vehicle driven by a 53-year-old man reportedly hit another car before crashing into the house," he said today.

He said Mat Rasid, a bachelor, was living with several relatives at the house.

Mat Rasid's body was sent to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for a post-mortem and police have taken a blood sample from the driver to assist in investigations.
