Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) central committee member Dr D Jeyakumar today lodged a police report against death threats which he had received earlier this month.

In his report, which was lodged at the Dang Wangi police station on his behalf by party president Dr Mohd Nasir Hashim, Jeyakumar claimed that he received two letters on June 19 carrying the threats to kill him.

Jeyakumar said that the letters also warned him that certain MIC leaders were "conspiring to kill him" and that it would be pointless to go to the police for protection as "they were in the pockets" of the party leaders.

Jeyakumar also said in his report that he was worried the police would not take immediate action against his report, just as they have been inactive on his previous reports on similar cases.

He said the police should take the threats seriously as he had been in constant state of animosity with MIC leaders ever since he contested in the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat in the last general elections, which was won by MIC president S Samy Vellu.

20 police reports made

Jeyakumar said that he had lodged more than 20 police reports against MIC leaders for acts of violence and threats made against him and PSM.

"We have been threatened by gangsters, our party office ransacked and belongings destroyed and many MIC leaders had intimidated us," said Jeyakumar.

He said that PSM managed to garner strong support in Sungai Siput and this caused MIC to see PSM and Jeyakumar as the threat to their dominance in the area.

"To overcome this, MIC leaders started instigating their supporters to use violence against us," said Jeyakumar.

He added that these various incidents accumulated in many police reports lodged by PSM but without any actions taken by the police.

He urged the police to take the latest report seriously and investigate the matter immediately to ensure his safety.
