PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli has claimed his analysis of Tabung Haji's financial statement ending Dec 31, 2015 showed the pilgrimage fund would not have enough money to pay its depositors should they withdraw their funds all at once.

"An analysis of Tabung Haji's repayment capability showed if all depositors were to withdraw their deposits together on Dec 31, 2015, Tabung Haji would be short of RM3 billion to make the repayments," he told a press conference in Parliament today.

Rafizi, who is also Pandan MP, projected that Tabung Haji would fall short of RM3 billion in funds if there was a complete withdrawal.

He attributed this, in part, to Lembaga Tabung Haji's weakening financial position.

Rafizi pointed out that even though Lembaga Tabung Haji made a profit of RM3.535 billion for 2015, it is left with only RM450 million if the losses from the fund's stock market portfolio was factored in.

He said the shares in which Lembaga Tabung Haji invested in had declined by RM3.09 billion.

Furthermore, he said the net deposit in Lembaga Tabung Haji had also declined to eight percent in 2015 compared to an average of 22.6 percent from 2009 to 2014.

"I project that Tabung Haji will face a more drastic rate of withdrawal in 2016 due to various revelations," he added.

As such, he said Tabung Haji's nett deposit would continue to be on the downtrend for 2016, further weakening its financial position.

"I urge Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to announce Tabung Haji's interim result for the first half ending June 30, 2016 to verify these matters and to find ways to strengthen Tabung Haji's financial position," he added.

Malaysiakini has emailed Lembaga Tabung Haji for response and is awaiting a response.
