Zunar arrested; Umno denies hand in attacks; Sosma spotlight

KINI ROUNDUP Here are the key headlines you may have missed yesterday, in brief.

Zunar arrested

Police arrested cartoonist Zunar for sedition over his cartoon exhibition at Komtar, which was critical of the government and also seized his artworks.

The arrest came after a complaint by Penang Umno Youth chief Rafizal Abdul Rahim who yesterday led a group to thrash Zunar's artworks at Komtar.

Zunar said the Umno members had hurled four punches at him and pulled his collar.

No action has been taken against the attackers to date.

Umno denies hand in attacks

PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzli said Umno must take action against its members for the Komtar attack as well as supporters of Umno's Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman attacking Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad on Parliament grounds.

However, Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor insisted that both incidents had nothing to do with Umno.

On a separate matter, Tengku Adnan refused to entertain Sungai Umno Besar chief Jamal Md Yunos calling him "senile" when insisting Umno was not involved in the red-shirts movement.

Sosma spotlight

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said he made no apologies for the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) and National Security Council Act 2016 (NSC).

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) said it did not want the government to investigate the attack on its Shah Alam MP Khalid Abdul Samad under Sosma.

The ‘Free Maria and Abolish Sosma’ campaign was officially launched.
