Five men between the ages of 34 and 67, were charged at the Kajang Magistrate's Court for the obstruction of a public officer, when they were involved in an anti-pylon protest earlier this year.

The five are Liong Chee Chew, 45, Yap Ah Tai, 67, Lam Guan Loong, 34, Yim Ah Ming, 53, and Tan Teck Chye, 44, claimed trial to the charge of jointly obstructing a public officer from performing his duties following the installation of Tenaga Nasional Berhad pylons at Jalan Cheras Hartamas 1, Taman Cheras Hartamas, Bukit Sungai Puteh, Hulu Langat at about 10am, on Aug 9.

Berita Harian reports they were charged under Section 186 of the Penal Code where they could face a maximum two years' jail, or fine or both if convicted.

DPP Natasha Chin Le Jy offered bail at RM4,000 in one surety.

Their lawyer M Dines, applied for a lower bail amount as they gave cooperation to the police and they did not possess any criminal record.

Magistrate Fadzilatul Isma Ahmad Refngah imposed bail at RM3,000 in one surety and fixed Jan 25 for mention.
