The parent of a Form 2 student who was allegedly assaulted while in police custody have urged the Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) to take action against the perpetrators.

M Paramasivan told the commission that his son was attacked in front of SMK Dato Hamzah by three other students on July 27. His son was detained for five days at the South Klang district police headquarters.

Paramasivan claimed that his son was struck with a rubber hose, thrown on a chair and had his head struck on the wall on July 30.

Following this, his son was warded for two nights at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah hospital, Klang.

In his written complaint to Suhakam, Paramasivan said he had lodged a police report over the incident but there has been no updates from the authorities thus far.

In view of this, he urged Suhakam to conduct an independent investigation and take action against the perpetrator.

He also demanded that the perpetrator be suspended pending investigations.

Kota Alam Shah state assemblyperson V Ganabatirau, who accompanied the guardians to Suhakam today said the commission was the Paramasivan's "last hope" for justice.

Ganabatirau said the matter was raised in the Dewan Rakyat on Nov 2 last year, to which Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said investigations were ongoing under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

At the time of writing, the South Klang police have yet to respond to request for comments.
