PAS Youth has submitted a memorandum to the United States embassy in Kuala Lumpur, demanding the immediate revocation of the temporary travel ban imposed on seven countries.

The ban is now often referred to as the “Muslim ban”.

PAS Youth vice-chief Khairul Nizam Khirudin and other leaders submitted the letter to the embassy's political counselor Tressa Rae Finerty.

"The oft-repeated premise of equating Islam with terror, however, is simply wrong and hurtful.

"PAS reiterates the fact that Islam is a religion of peace, and thus should not be associated with terror,” read the memorandum.

Upon submission of the memorandum, PAS Youth demanded the embassy representatives to explain on the rationale behind the implementation of the “Muslim ban”.

“We were told (by the embassy) that the Muslim ban is a temporary ban of 90 days and it is to ensure that the US president and the government are able to review the country’s immigration law and make amendments to it,” said Khairul.

Furthermore, imposing the ban on Syria was improper, he added, as the country was under conflict.

“We want the ban to be stopped so that refugees are able to seek asylum in the US."

Along with the demand to rescind the Muslim ban, PAS Youth also wants the embassy to ensure there will be no further bans that may affect Malaysians who are furthering their studies or working in the US.

Khairul then urged for visa applications between Malaysia and the US to be simplified.

US President Donald Trump’s executive order on the “Muslim ban” affects citizens from Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Libya and Somalia, who are barred from entering the US for 90 days.

The Trump Administration has also suspended the acceptance of refugees for 120 days.
