Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) can say goodbye to any cooperation with PAS if if formally joins the Pakatan Harapan opposition pact, said the Islamic party's president Abdul Hadi Awang.

"We will officially no longer have any cooperation if Bersatu officially (joins Harapan)," Abdul Hadi said during a press conference in Cyberjaya today.

He was responding to Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad's announcement that Bersatu will formally request to join Harapan soon.

However, Mahathir has said that before that can happen, Bersatu wants Harapan to change its name and logo as well as have as have shared policies and manifesto.

At present, Harapan comprises of PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara.

Previously, others in the PAS leadership had given contrasting responses on the Islamic party's reaction to Bersatu joining Harapan.

PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah had said that the party may cut ties with Bersatu if it joins Harapan.

While party deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said that Mohd Amar's views are the Kelantan menteri besar's personal opinion and not the official stand of PAS.

He said that the party has yet to decide on the matter.

Bersatu had earlier delayed its entry into Harapan, settling for an electoral pact instead, as it tried to forge cooperation with PAS to head off possible three-cornered fights in the coming national polls.

However, after developments stalled in inter-party talks, Mahathir then said that matters had reached a cut-off point and Bersatu will walk away if nothing concrete is achieved.
