The police have questioned DAP's Batu Kawan MP Kasthuri Patto about a forum on youths she attended as a panellist last year in Penang.

Her lawyer RSN Rayer said Kasthuri is being investigated under the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) 2012.

"A police report was lodged against the forum, which took place at the Caring Society Complex on April 12 last year," Rayer told reporters outside the Northeast District police headquarters on Jalan Pattani.

"The forum was titled 'Forum Deklarasi Rakyat Suara Anak Muda Selamatkan Malaysia' and Kasthuri was a panellist in the event.

"Kasthuri is here to assist in the investigations and she has given her statement. If there is anything else, we are willing to cooperate," Rayer added.

They lawyer said this after accompanying Kasthuri who met the police at 10am.

It is learnt that the police report was not targeted at Kasthuri but at the forum.

Is permit needed for forum?

Rayer, the state assemblyperson for Seri Delima, said he is not aware who was the organiser of the event.

Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim has also been called by the police for questioning tomorrow.

Rayer said it was to assist in police probe in the same case Kasthuri was called in for.

Later in a Facebook posting, Kasthuri said she is being probed over an event which took place behind closed door.

"Is a permit needed for a forum in a closed area?" Kasthuri asked.

"Although, I must say, the investigating officer was very professional, honest and dutifully asked me questions. I can't help but feel that this is a tactic of intimidation by the powers that be to silence voices of dissent," she added.

"No intimidation will stop me from speaking my mind to fight what I believe in."
