After being remanded for seven days last month, Johor state executive councillor Abd Latif Bandi is expected to be charged for corruption at the Johor Baru Sessions Court tomorrow.

Abd Latif, who is Johor's Housing and Local Government Committee chairperson will be charged with another person, who is believed to be a “middleman”.

He is expected to be charged under Section 17 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009, for purportedly giving or accepting gratification.

If found guilty, he could face five times the bribed amount or RM10,000 fine, whichever is higher and up to 20 years in jail.

A source familiar with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations confirmed with Malaysiakini that Abd Latif would be charged tomorrow with the other person.

It was reported that the MACC had seized 26 luxury vehicles and froze 45 bank accounts with regard to the case.

The case had also seen six other arrests, including Abd Latif's son and his special officer.

Abd Latif was remanded for seven days by the graft commission and was released on March 16.
