In two years, 161 deaths in immigration depots
One hundred and sixty one detainees died at Immigration Department detention centres between 2014 and 2016, according to Home Ministry figures.
The Home Ministry said the deaths were caused by a range of illnesses, including tuberculosis and HIV.
The largest number of deaths were recorded at the detention camps located in Langkap (40), Bukit Jalil (31) and Lenggeng (28).
Most of the deceased were Myanmarese (73), followed by Indonesians (23) and Bangladeshis (14).

The figures were revealed in a Parliamentary written reply to Kuala Kedah MP Dr Azman Ismail.
Azman had sought statistics from 2010 to 2016. Azmin's question on the number of Rohingya or United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees-recognised asylum seekers went unanswered.
