All eyes are now on the PKR political bureau meeting to be held tomorrow, with the fate of three PAS executive council members in the balance after some demanded for their removal.

However, for the sake of stability in Selangor, they are not expected to push for the removal.

As such, according to a PKR political bureau member, PAS is expected to remain as part of the state government.

The three exco members are Iskandar Abdul Samad, Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Zaidy Abdul Talib.

The source also pointed out that Selangor Menteri Besar and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali's main consideration would be the stability of the PKR-led government.

"It is too close to the general election. I can understand Azmin's position to preserve the government to avoid any uncertainties that could lead to something that we may not be able to control.

"It is not just a question of majority, it is also a question of stability and certainty."

The source added that Pakatan Harapan will still have the majority even if PAS is removed from the government.

"Any alternation to the composition of the excos will only inject uncertainty. With the coming general election, uncertainty is not going to help anyone. So I can empathise with Azmin's position that he wants to preserve the stability."

There are 56 seats in Selangor, with PKR holding 13 seats, DAP (14), PAS (13), Amanah (two) and Umno (11). There are two independent assemblypersons.

If PAS, Umno and the two independents form a pact, they would have 26 seats - still need two more seats to rule the state.

According to the source, the presence of PAS will not affect the direction nor the policy-making of the state government.

"Now they have no formal relationship with PKR, no influence whatsoever. For the sake of maintaining stability, I can understand if the MB wants us to put up with PAS (excos) taking their salaries for another six months."

However, the source stressed that the PAS excos should resign if they still have the dignity.

"If you disagree with Amanah and DAP before, and now you disagree with PKR, you cannot say that you want to remain and be part of the government, and draw resources, salaries and allocations. The onus is certainly on PAS."

Another political bureau member who wished to remain anonymous admitted that the decision on PAS exco members is not straight-forward as it involves several factors.

"This includes multi-cornered fights, whether there would be the (Selangor) royal factor, whether to remove the exco members only or others as well, and so on," he told Malaysiakini.

PAS Selangor commissioner ustaz Sallehen Mukhyi claimed that their exco members will remain in the state cabinet to prevent alleged mischief by DAP.

Responding to this, PKR secretary-general Saifudddin Nasution Ismail quoted the late PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat in a veiled swipe at PAS excos, while Azmin Ali ruled out the need to call for a snap polls.

PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli also claimed that Pakatan Harapan stands to benefit should PAS continue participating in the Selangor cabinet.
