The trial of Keadilan youth chief Mohd Ezam Mohd Nor, on a charge of leaking official secrets to the media, will resume on August 6.

The hearing, before magistrate Wan Afrah Wan Ibrahim was earlier scheduled to be heard today.

Defence lawyer Zainur Zakaria told malaysiakini today that the matter was postponed as leading counsel Raja Aziz Addruse had another matter to attend to this morning.

Ezam, 34, is accused of disclosing to reporters details of an investigation by the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) into International Trade Minister Rafidah Aziz and former Malacca mentri besar Rahim Tamby Chik.

He is alleged to have committed the offence at the Keadilan headquarters at 12.35pm on Nov 6, 1999.

Charged under OSA

The former political secretary of jailed politician Anwar Ibrahim, has been charged under the Official Secrets Act (OSA) and faces a jail term of not less than one year and not more than seven years if convicted.

Ezam is currently serving a two-year detention period under the Internal Security Act (ISA) at the Kamunting detention centre in Perak.

He was among 10 reformasi activists arrested by the police since April 10 to pre-empt what Inspector-General of Police Norian Mai had described as an attempt to overthrow the government through militant means.
